Wetlands Snapshot Investigation   

The Upper Kent wetland suite lies within the Forests to Stirling area of the Gondwana Link Wetlands program. This assessment was initiated by Green Skills Inc under the South Coast Festival of Birds and Biodiversity 2020 banner. The aim was to assess several wetlands with a special emphasis on Murdellup Lagoon.

Green Skills Inc. in conjunction with the Gondwana Link Program supported fencing of remnant vegetation around Murdellup Lagoon between 2011 to 2014   Part of the purpose of visiting Murdellup Lagoon was to assess how well eco restoration has progressed.

Collecting samples from Murdellup Lagoon

The Denmark Bird Group visited Murdellup Lagoon on the morning of 13th February 2020 to survey the wetland for waterbirds. Geraldine and Steve Janicke with the help of Citizen Scientists and Certificate 3 Conservation and Land Management TAFE students, visited four wetlands on 19th February 2020 to assess the ecology supporting the waterbirds and the riparian vegetation.

  • Murdellup Lagoon,
  • Mineral Lake
  • Lake Poorrarecup.
