It was a bright and colourful scene at the Sew Cool! sewing workshops. Community members of all ages came along to learn how to pick through old discarded clothing and piece together some funky new styles.

A table stacked with delightful old clothes, table clothes and doilies for attendees to pick through and create their own masterpieces. A section devoted to the buzz of sewing machines, lots of laughs and story sharing. Creativity and periods of ín-the-zone’ focus filled the main workshop room at the Denmark Community Resource Centre.

All of the items were packed up, lovingly washed, ironed and  taken to the Denmark Arts markets.

Our Sew Cool! Stall had a couple of racks of the most unique, preloved and rearranged clothes at the market, and a great big message to tell.

Transform old clothes into works of art. Buy quality clothes that will last.

Our key focus areas are:

  • Diverting from landfill
  • Educating the community
  • Creating upcycled clothes
  • Encouraging slow fashion

Every piece makes a difference!

We look forward to more Sew Cool! happenings in the new year. Over the next few months we are working on some new designs, stockpiling lots of intriguing and exciting resources and bringing the community together again to sew for sustainability.

SEW COOL! is a local creative waste diversion project that aims to encourage upcycling and spread the message about the creative ways we can all contribute to local and global sustainability.
