“No gifts please” took a fresh twist for Annabelle Newbury’s recent milestone birthday party.
A long time Green Skills staff member since 1998, Annabelle has also been committed to the East Timorese community. So much so that her birthday party included a gift/fundraising register and silent auction for the Friends of Suai/Covalima scholarship program.
“I volunteered at the Covalima Community Centre in Suai (East Timor) for 3 months in 2013, and saw first hand the needs of this community. I wanted to give them ongoing support, and let them know that I hadn’t forgotten about them. I know that this scholarship will make a real difference not just to the scholarship recipient, but to the whole community.” Annabelle Newbury, Green Skills Perth Manager.
Annabelle’s party raised $5,160 towards a Community Development scholarship for a female student from Covalima district to study at the national university in Dili.
